When to Use Capital Letters

Use a capital letter for: 1. Beginning of a sentence - T he cat is sleeping. 2. The word "I" - Yesterday I went to school. 3. Names of people - M aria, T om, O liver 4. Names of places - N orway, O slo, E urope 5. Days and months - M onday, T uesday, J anuary 6. Titles - M r., M rs., H arry P otter

Punctuation Marks

Period/Full stop (.) - End of a statement - I like ice cream . Question mark (?) - End of a question - Do you like ice cream ? Exclamation mark (!) - Strong feeling or command - That's amazing! - Stop! Comma (,) - Short pause, lists - I have a dog, a cat, and a fish.

Common Mistakes

In English, these do NOT have capital letters:
- days of the week in Norwegian: mandag, tirsdag
- months in Norwegian: januar, februar
- BUT in English, they DO: Monday, January

"I" is ALWAYS capital in English!
- Norwegian: "i dag gikk jeg..."
- English: "Today I went..."
