Using present simple and present continuous.
Present Tense - What Happens Now
The present tense tells us about things that happen now or things that happen regularly (every day, every week).
- What happens NOW: "I eat an apple."
- What happens REGULARLY: "I eat breakfast every morning."
When to use:
- "I play football every Saturday." (regular)
- "The sun shines." (right now)
- "Birds fly." (always true)
I, you, we, they - no change:
- I play
- You play
- We play
- They play
He, she, it - add -s:
- He plays
- She plays
- It plays
Fill in the verb "like":
"I ____ ice cream. My sister ____ ice cream too."
"I like ice cream. My sister likes ice cream too."
Why?
- "I" - no change, so "like"
- "My sister" = "she" - add s, so "likes"
Some verbs change more when we add -s:
- go → goes (He goes to school)
- do → does (She does homework)
- watch → watches (He watches TV)
- have → has (She has a dog)
If the verb ends in -o, -s, -sh, -ch, or -x, add -es!
Choose the correct verb:
I (like/likes) pizza.
She (play/plays) football.
They (read/reads) books.
My dog (run/runs) fast.
